KORAN FOOTNOTES
These footnotes are all to the Koran / Quran, and are listed in numerical order.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful  [[ (as it is in one translation) is at the start of every chapter (or surah) except the 9th, At-Tauba (Repentance), otherwise known as Baraāt (Immunity).  Transliterating the Arabic for the prefatory phrase is given as Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥeem in the Saheeh Koran, but Bismillāh-Raḥmān-Raḥim in another translation.]]
Koran 2:106 (or 2:100):-  [[ABROGATE / ABROGATION:]]  Whatever communications We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring one better than it or like it.  Do you not know that Allah has power over all things? [[ The "doctrine of abrogation," that is, cancellation of one Koran statement by a different one, is a background, as it were, of the doctrine of taqqiya, or deceit, which see.  Other verses (ayas) covering abrogation include 16:101 (or 16:103):- And when We change one sign (verse) for another, and Allah knowest best what He revealeth, they say 'Thou art only a fabricator.' , plus the astonishing 22:52 (or 22:51) "Allah abrogates the interjections of Satan." .]]
Koran 2:193 (or 2:189):- [[WORLD CONQUEST:]] Fight the unbelievers until no other religion except Islam is left.  <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/002/002-193.htm>.  [[World conquest:  Let us examine how this sort of Islamic text leads the dupes to believe they have a right to world conquest.  Islam's basic documents define "UNBELIEVER/S" and "DISBELIEVER/S," and also look at the words "INFIDEL/S," "POLYTHEISTS," "IDOLATORS," "PAGANS," "KUFAR," "KAFIR," and "HYPOCRITES."   Also check "THE PEOPLE OF THE BOOK," and "THE PEOPLE TO WHOM THE SCRIPTURES HAVE BEEN GIVEN," "JEWS," and "CHRISTIANS."
Many Muslim teachers say that "INFIDEL" means a person who does not believe in Allah.  But the Koran 12:106 (i.e., Allah's word, they say) also states: "The majority of those who believe in Allah do not do so without committing idol worship."  So most Muslims can believe, or perhaps ought to believe, that more than half of their fellow-Muslims are, inwardly, idolators!!!
The JEWS / JUDAISTS, among other insults in the Koran and other Muslim texts, are apes, despised and rejected (Koran 2:65 <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/002/002-065.htm> and 5:60), and like a donkey laden with books (62:5).  They are included with People of the Book, some of whom have been supposedly transformed into apes and swine by Allah (5:59-60).  The Judaists' land belongs to the Muslims (Koran 33:27, and see 59:2).
(THREATS TO JEWS: Jews, in the hadith / hadeeth tradtions, earn Allah's anger, dead Judaists are punished in their graves, are to be killed if they become Muslims then return to Judaism, may be killed even if they have done business with a Muslim, are expelled from Arabia, and at the end of the world are to be hunted to death and will be betrayed by the stones and trees they try to hide behind.  Modern democrats would define these hadiths and the Koran texts given here as "hate speech" and so-called "anti-Semitism" to a high degree.)
JEWS, CHRISTIANS and SABEANS – Koran 9:29 <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/009/009-029.htm> gives an order to make war on those to whom the Scriptures have been given (which means JEWS, CHRISTIANS and SABEANS), to humble them and make them pay tribute.  (This would reduce them to servitude or dhimmitude.).  The Jews and Christians receive the curse "May Allah destroy them!" (Koran 9:30).  Christians etc. who believe the Trinity dogma are included as Infidels by Koran 5:73 and 6:106 (and see 9:28), and those who believe Jesus was God by 5:72, or Son of God by 6:101 and 72:2-3, or Lord by 9:31 <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/009/009-031.htm>.
Some of the PEOPLE OF THE BOOK have been transformed into apes and swine, says Koran 5:60.  The Prophet is ordered, Koran 66:9 says, to make war on the Infidels (non-Muslims; re-read the above to note how wide the definition becomes) and the Hypocrites.
(MAGIANS are listed with other religions in Koran 22:17, but are not mentioned in this verse.  According to footnote 2789 on p 953 in the Ifta Saudi Arabian Koran, the Magians lived in the Persian and Median uplands and Mesopotamian valleys, they worshipped Fire as a fit emblem of Allah, and their scripture was the Zend-Avesta.)
HYPOCRITES are to be attacked and killed, says Koran 4:89, and the Muslims are urged to be unyielding to them (9:73).  The Hypocrites, Koran 2:8 explains, are people who say they believe, but inwardly do not believe.
Doesn't this mean, they are outwardly Muslims, but are judged by other Muslims as not truly Muslims?  Hypocrites are NOT to be obeyed (Koran 33:1 and 33:48) <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/033/033-001.htm>.  And, many Muslims may have heard (as mentioned above in these footnotes) in Koran 12:106 that the majority of those who believe in Allah do not do so without committing idol worship.
Because each Muslim has the ability, perhaps the duty, to decide who is a Hypocrite and who is not (even among their own religious and civic leaders), could this explain why many Muslims in Muslim and non-Muslim lands find it hard to co-operate with and obey governments, rulers, their own religious leaders, and general society?  In short, why there is a rebellious attitude by some or many of them?   Just as in non-Islamic societies (including the Europeans, the Asians, the Africans, the Australian Aboriginals, and the American Indigenous or Amerind nations both before and during the European invasions), the murder and/or overthrow of kings, chiefs, and other rulers plus religious leaders has occurred right through Islamic lands, an early example being the defeat and killing of Ali (cousin, son-in-law, and successor of Muhammed as leader, i.e., caliph) in 661 C.E., i.e., A.D.  After Iraq was said to be liberated by the "Coalition of the Killing," Muslim clergy who returned from exile were murdered in a mosque as they were conducting worship.  In 2012 some supposedly Muslim rebels against Gaddafi of Libya murdered him.
Muslims must not befriend those who oppose Allah and his Apostle, even if they are their (own) fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kinsfolk (Koran 58:22).  (The Australian Family Association ought to read that scripture!)  They must not make friends of the Jews and Christians – Koran 5:51 (or 5:56), and 5:57 (or 5:62) <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/005/005-057.htm>.
(PAGANS: A Hadith tradition says that Umar sent the Muslims to the great countries to fight the pagans (Sahih Bukhari's Hadith 4, 53:386).  Another tradition in Bukhari's, 5, 59:600 says, "There is no migration, but Jihad (for Allah's Cause)."
No wonder the early history of Islam includes a story that a non-Muslim leader begged his fellow-citizens not to make an alliance with the Muslims, because it would mean agreeing to fight the whole world!   Also read Koran doctrine 71:26-27 (or 71:27-28), and re-read Koran 2:193 (or 2:189).]]
Koran 2:216 (or 2:212):-  [[ JIHAD, HOLY WAR. ]]  Warfare is ordained for you, though it is hateful unto you; <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/002/002-216.htm>.  [["To fight in the cause of Truth is one of the highest forms of charity," according to footnote 236 on page 91 of the Ifta Saudi Arabian Koran.  It goes on:  "What can you offer that is more precious than your own life? "
Footnote 274 to Koran 2:243 on page 107 of the same book reads:  "We now return to the subject of Jihād which we left at ii. 214-216.  We are to be under no illusion about it.  If we are not prepared to fight for our faith, with our lives and all our resources, both our lives and our resources will be wiped out by our enemies.  As to life, Allah gave it, and a coward is not likely to save it.  It has happened again and again in history that men who tamely submitted to be driven from their homes although they were more numerous than their enemies, had the sentence of death pronounced on them for their cowardice, and they deserved it.  But Allah gives further and further chances in His mercy.  This is a lesson to every generation.  The Commentators differ as to the exact episode referred to, but the wording is perfectly general, and so is the lesson to be learnt from it."
Footnote 275 to Koran 2:244, also on page 107, starts off:  "For Allah's cause we must fight, but never to satisfy our own selfish passions or greed, for the warning is repeated: 'Allah heareth and knoweth all things' "(END OF QUOTATION)
Yes, "selfish passions or greed," as stated above, usually cause wars of conquest.  So in history we saw that in the wartime rape-marriages and the taking of booty during the wars of conquest that led Muslim armies to be conquering across north Africa and to the Spanish peninsula, north to Jerusalem and Damascus, south to Ethiopia, east to Persia (now Iran) and later India, north to the gates of Vienna, and right up to modern times Muslims continue the dispossession of non-Muslims, and attacks on them.]]
2:223:- [[ALWAYS AVAILABLE.]]  Your wives are as fields unto you, so approach your fields when or how you will [[This is the text used by Muslim clerics to write and say that if a husband requests sex at once, the wife, even if she is cooking or otherwise busy, must immediately make herself available for sex.  Then read 4:34 (or 4:38) which gives the husband the right to scourge his wife if he suspects refractoriness ("arrogance" in the Saheeh translation, "fear may rebel" in Khalidi's).  And yet hundreds of Western women are switching to Islam! ]]
2:228:-  [[SWAPPING.]]  Divorced women remain in waiting {i.e., do not remarry} for three periods, And their husbands have more right to take them back [[The heading shown in this section of The Koran Key is "Wife changing, and Divorce," but one wonders whether it might be better headed "Bedmate exchanging" or "Bedmate swapping."  All 12 texts in this section ought to be read by other religions' leaders, and women's groups.  Also see some Hadith traditions like Sahih Bukari's 6, 60:139, and Sahih Muslim's 008:371. ]]
Koran 2:236  [[GIFT TO BRIDE:]] <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/002/002-236.htm>.  [[The bridal gift, or marriage settlement, (Arabic mahr), was translated "dowry" in several translations.  But that almost reversed the meaning of the word "dowry".  In Islam, the mahr is said to be money or property given by the bridegroom to the bride, as the Koran quotes show above in the Mahr section (previously headed "Dowries").  It is explained in Mokhtar Stork's book, 2008, p 87.  The Arabic word for this obligatory bridal gift is mahr, according to the Saheeh 2001-10 translation, page 69, footnote 139 to Koran 4:4.
(The Western tradition is that a dowry is given by some brides' families to some bridegrooms or their families.  "Property or money brought by bride to her husband " - Concise Oxford Dictionary 1980, p 312 a.)
HOWEVER, the Muslim word-picture of giving the bride money or property is rather spoilt by the general scene in the writings, which is of powerlessness assigned to women.  To begin with, Islamic girls living with their parents are at risk of being told to get dressed up because they are getting married today.  They often don't even know the man; in a large number of cases he is older, even much older, than the girl.  Take a closer look at the Koran 2:237 <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/002/002-237.htm> which looks as if a female, married but not "bedded," who is being divorced by the man, could lose the money by agreeeing to lose it, or the person "in whose hand is the marriage contract foregoes it."  Is "the person" a male or a female, you might ask yourself.
Beside these Koran rulings there is the Hadith tradition teaching of temporary "marriage," seemingly in wartime, "legalised" by giving the woman even a garment, as described in Sahih Bukhari's 6, 60:139
LIES: In another Hadith, also Sahih Bukhari's, there is permission for another kind of forced "marriage," that is, by getting two witnesses (men most probably) to tell an Islamic cleric (male, exclusively) that the female had agreed to marry the bridegroom, although she had not agreed.  Click Bukhari's Hadith 9, 86:98
UNDER-AGE: With such teachings, it is little surprise that the "marriages" of under-age and other young females, forced into it by family pressure, threats, and actual violence, are being reported around the world.  Britain has set up a police unit which is saving some of the girls, but Australia has not done so.  Australian cases were reported in The Weekend Australian Magazine pages 12-17, Saturday-Sunday, February 11-12, 2012, and Reader's Digest Australia pp 134-38, April 2012.  Other reports in other countries are of Christian and other non-Muslim girls being seized and "married" by Muslim men, but no fatwas are being issued by Muslim clerics.  The child-marriage pattern was set in the Prophet's example of marrying Aisha at 6, and consummating the marriage when she was 9. (Sahih Bukhari's Vol. 5, Bk. 58, No. 236).  Similar child-sex rules are in other Semitic religious traditions.]]
2:240 (or 2:241):- [[MAINTENANCE.]]  And such of you as shall die and leave wives, shall bequeath their wives a year's maintenance without causing them to quit their homes <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/002/002-240.htm>.  [[Another translation has the word "expulsion" instead of "quit their homes."  And please read 65:1.  Westerners would be wise to read both verses several times, and yet thousands of Western women are converting to Islam.  ONE YEAR IN THE HOME, BEFORE EXPULSION.  This would be a good verse for meditation each week by the Human Rights Commissions and the various pro-family associations around the world.  (Happy note: This Muslim ruling is more merciful than that of another oriental religion - burning the widow on the husband's funeral pyre.)
The Roman Catholics and others who preach that divorce is forbidden, before they go to their next inter-faith function, ought to read the next verse 2:241 (or 2:242), which easily speaks of divorced women.  What about 60:10, which says " And hold not to marriage bonds with disbelieving women ."  Imagine what a newly-converted man could do with that verse, if he wanted four wives at a time!"]]
3:35-36 (or 3:31-32):- [[OUT OF HER TIME.]]  Remember when the wife of Imran said, I have brought forth a female and I have named her Mary. Zacharias reared her.  [[Imran is the Koran equivalent of Amran, who in Hebrew scripture (the Old Testament), Numbers 26:59 and Exodus 6:20, is named as the father of Aaron, Moses, and Miriam.  According to the Hebrew and the Greek-language Christian scriptures, they lived an estimated 1500 years before Mary and Jesus!  See also note on 19:27-34.  Zacharias (Zachary, Zechariah) is named as Mary's father, not just someone who reared her, in the Christian Greek Scriptures, i.e., the New Testament, Luke 1:5.]]
Koran 3:46 (or 3:41):- And He shall speak to men alike when in the cradle and when grown up; [[See footnote for 5:110.]]
4:11 (or part of 4:12):- [[MALE PORTION OF TWO FEMALES.]]  With regard to your children, Allah commandeth you to give the male the portion of two females. but if she be an only daughter, she shall have the half;   [[This scriptural distribution giving each daughter only half what each son would inherit, though denied by apologists, is confirmed in the Hadith tradition, Sahih Bukhari's, Volume 8, Book 80, Number 731.  Also see sisters getting only half what the brothers get at Koran 4:176 (or 4:175).]]
4:12 continued (or 4:14):- [[WIDOW AN EIGHTH.]]  And your wives shall have a fourth part of what ye leave, an eighth part <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/004/004-012.htm[[Is this fair and just?  Remembering that there can be up to four wives plus ex-wives, and re-reading the earlier part of 4:12, ask yourself is this fair.  Then re-read Koran 2:240 which seems to say that a dead man's estate shall give the wife a year's maintenance without causing her to quit her home.  At the end of that year, who takes over wives' homes?   If you guess male relations of the husbands, you might be close to being right!
Re-read the previous verse, Koran 4:11 <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/004/004-011.htm>, for a dead man's daughters getting only half shares, then check how much of her land at Fadak and her share from Khaibar after Muhammad's death was received by his daughter Fatima, according to a tradition, at: Bukhari's 8, 80:718.]]
4:15 (or 4:14, or 4:19):- [[LOCK UP, OR KILL?]]  If any of your women be guilty of whoredom, shut them up in their houses till death release them, or Allah make some way for them.  [["Adultery, fornication": Well, this aya (verse) orders some sex-offending women to be shut up until death, while 24:2 orders men and women a hundred stripes, and yet again 24:3 limits their marriage partners.  Contradictions?  Re-read 4:82 saying that the Koran has many contradictions.
AND, those who read the Hadith traditions find that Bukhari's Hadith tradition 8, 82:815 reports that Mohammad ordered the adulterous son of Unias to be whipped and exiled, and the relevant woman to be stoned to death.
A more even punishment is reported in another Hadith, Malik's Muwatta, 41.41.1.1, Mohammad ordering a Jewish pair to be both stoned to death, following Hebrew scripture.  Sunan Abu-Dawud's 38:4405 reports that Mohammad ordered a man who had illegal sexual intercourse with a slave-girl to be stoned to death.  In spite of these contradictions, Shariah Law, supposedly the Muslim scholars' rules based on the Heaven-dictated Koran and the life of Mohammad, seems to demand stoning to death, and in modern times female rape victims are being stoned to death, and in some countries hanged, for what the Islamic courts say is "fornication or adultery."
So, the Koran 24:3 limiting the marriage partners of the adulterers and the idolaters is really a dead letter.  Islamic dogma is that they must be killed.]]
4:34 (or 4:38):- [[MOST IN HELL ARE WOMEN.]]  Men are superior to women Virtuous women are obedient scourge them but if they are obedient [[Women are to be perfectly obedient and, as the Koran 2:223 shows, ever-ready to give the man sex!!  Not likely!!  So it is not surprising that in the hadith tradition of Sahih Muslim 4:1982 Mohammed is quoted as saying (after a solar eclipse) that most of Hell's inhabitants were women because of their "ingratitude to their husbands and ingratitude to kindness".  ]]
Koran 4:43 (or 4:46):- [[UNCLEAN, PURIFY.]]  Approach not prayers until after washing your whole body.  If ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands. [["Unclean, purify."  Unclean to be in contact with women, as if one had been attending to body wastes, in this aya (verse), and unclean before prayers to touch women, according to Koran 5:6 !   Try to guess from what culture such ideas were transmitted.  Also remember, there are supposed to be five prayers every day.]]
4:176 (or 4:175):- [[HALF TO WIDOW, ALL TO MAN.]]    If a man dies, leaving no child but {only} a sister, she will have half of what he left. <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/004/004-176.htm>.  [[Who gets the rest?   If he left no spouse, the sister would receive half, and remoter heirs the rest.  If two sisters, they receive two-thirds, and presumably remoter heirs get the other third.  The brothers get twice what the sisters get. (Based on Saudi Arabian Qur-ān, footnote 681, page 274.)  But note that if a sister dies, the brother gets all her estate, not just a fraction.  These rules are said to be subject to paying debts, funeral expenses, and legacies to an amount allowed.]]
5:32 (or 5:35):- [[BAN NOT FOR MUSLIMS.]]  If any one slew a person [[Note that this aya, supposedly forbidding murder, is of a command supposedly addressed to the children of Israel, in the past before Mahomet, not to the Muslims of Mahomet's time or later.  This is a favourite quotation of Muslim apologists and their dupes, trying to make out that Islam, the religion of giving in (submission) through compulsion (holy war) or otherwise, is a religion of peace.  But quietly read the "compulsion" aya at 3:83 (or 3:77), the terror and beheading aya 8:12, and several others.]]
5:33 (or 5:37):- [[HANDS AND FEET]]  The punishment murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/005/005-033.htm>.  [["Hands and feet:" President George W. Bush was ignorant of this, or spoke as if he were ignorant.  After the United States, Britain, and Australia unlawfully invaded Iraq on 20 March 2003, some time later a U.S. leader banned a militant Iraqi Islamic cleric's newspaper, this was followed by an upswelling of resistance to the liberation / occupation forces.  An early outrage was the mutiliation of bodies of about two United States troops.
Bush was so "politically correct" that he said that Islam banned body mutilation, and he said this was not an Islamic act.  This shows the ignorance and foolishness of Bush Junior and/or his advisers, because even if they did not know of this scripture 5:33, or of 8:12 ordering the striking off of heads and fingertips, they ought to have known that beheading was common in Islamic jurisprudence (see also 47:4), and have heard of the hands of thieves being struck off in obedience to Koran 5:38.  (Incidentally, "Exiled from the land" is "imprisoned" in another translation.) ]]
Koran 5:38 (or 5:42):- [[HOW TO EARN A LIVING.]]  And (as for) the man who steals and the woman who steals, cut off their hands.  <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/005/005-038.htm[[Ask yourself, how can a thief turn over a new leaf and earn an honest living in Muslim-type communities with one (or after a second offence, both) of his/her hands removed?  Beside the difficulty with doing most tasks, nearly every Muslim person who met her/him would mistrust her/him.]]
5:110 (or 5:109-110):-  [[CRADLE TALK, BIRD CREATION.]]  When He shall say:  O Jesus! Son of Mary! call to mind my favour upon thee and upon thy mother, and when I strengthened thee with the Holy Spirit that thou shouldest speak to men alike in the cradle and when grown up; – {110}  And when I taught thee the Scripture, and Wisdom, and the Evangel:  and thou didst create of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by my leave, and didst breathe into it, and by my leave it became a bird; [[Re the baby Jesus supposedly speaking in the cradle (3:41, 5:110, and 19:27-34), compare with early Christian era apocryphal (that is, rejected) book 1 Infancy 1:2-3.  Re the child Jesus and the clay bird being given life, compare with similar apocryphal book 2 Infancy 1:4-9 (Thomas's Gospel, in the apocrypha).]]
5:116:- [[JESUS GOD, MARY TOO?]]  And when Allah shall say– 'O Jesus, son of Mary:  hast thou said unto mankind – "Take me and my mother as two Gods, beside God"?'  He shall say –   [[This unusual statement about the supposed gods Mary and Jesus might have had its roots in a reported Egyptian Christian variant teaching around the year 325 C.E..  The overwhelming majority of Christian sects teach that God is one, but the one God comprises a trinity of three persons – the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit (whose absence from the book of Revelation / Apocalypse leads the Webmaster to suppose that the "holy spirit" of Father God and / or Messiah Jesus was "deified" after that book was written).
Nearly all Christians do NOT teach that Mary is God, part of God, or a god.  However, according to a book called Nimrod, a Melchite section of Christians from Egypt, in A.D. 325 at the Nicene Council of Christians, argued that the three persons in the Trinity were "the Father, the Virgin Mary, and (the) Messiah their Son."  (This is as quoted by Rev. Alexander Hislop, 1858, in The Two Babylons, A & B Publishers Group, Brooklyn, ISBN 1-881316-36-x, p 82 and varied at p 89.)  The Nicene Council rejected that teaching.
So, possibly news of the different though rejected teaching that Mary as well as Jesus were part of the Godhead had evidently reached some ears or eyes in Arabia while the Koran was being devised, and seems to have been transmuted into Mohammedans teaching that Christians were honouring both Mary and Jesus as gods.  "Mariolatry" and "Christolatory" are terms used in at least one Muslim commentary.  Such unscriptural ideas have lives of their own, as shown by the ongoing battles in the Roman Catholic Church to stop communities honouring Mary under the title "Mediatrix of All Graces."  "The Mother of God" battle was lost in the mainstream Eastern and Western traditional Churches many centuries ago.]]
Koran 8:60:- [[TERROR]]  I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve.   [[ Terror is an integral part of the Muslim plan to destroy other cultures and so conquer each country.  Terror has been practised for centuries by warlike groups like the ancient Persians, ancient Romans, the Muslim Arabs, Ghengis Khan, the European empires, etc.  But for Western leaders to say terrorism is unislamic is to deny the known truth. ]]
Koran 9:30:- [[EZRA, SON OF ALLAH?]]  And the Jews say: Uzair [Ezra] is the son of Allah <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/009/009-030.htm> [[In the light of the amazing claim in Hislop's book that some Christians around A.D. 325 taught that Mary was part of the Trinity, that is, she was part of the Godhead, the Webmaster would, after finding that out, not be surprised at anything!   He would appreciate it if any document or custom of the Judaists or Israelites or Samaritans in any age could be produced to support this statement.  It had been the Webmaster's belief that Yehovah / Jehovah / Yahweh of Israel (Samaria) and Judah was not described as the begetter of any particular person, or of Israel-Judah, although he was figuratively "father" to them and to his followers in general as a theological metaphor (Ho 11:1; Ex 4:22; Dt 1:31, 8:5; Is 43:6; Ps 103:13; Je 3:19; 31:0, 20; Ho 2:1).  (Bible references and some of the argument are in McKenzie, article "Father.")]]
17:1:- [[TRIP TO JERUSALEM?]]  Sūrat Bani Isrāīl, or Al-Isrā, also called "The Children of Israel," or "The Night Journey":  [[Sūrat 17 opens with the night journey of the Holy Prophet:  Although no Koran documents say so, it is taught that he was transported from the Sacred Mosque of Mecca (Makkah), Arabia, to the Farthest Mosque (said to be in Jerusalem, Palestine!), in a night, and was also shown some of the Signs of Allah.  (Adapted from discussion in Arabian Koran, p 772, which also states that the Hadith literature gives details of this journey.  Also refer to Mokhtar Stork book, 2008, page 169.)]]
18:50:- [[TWO NATURES IN ONE BEING?]]  " We said to the angels they prostrated except Iblīs.  He was one of the Jinns.  <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/018/018-050.htm>.  [[In 38:71-74 Iblis / Eblis is said to be an angel.  Yet in 18:50 the writer has him down as both an angel and a jinn / djinn, which has all the earmarks of a contradiction.
The angels, the Koran says, were messengers, made with two, three or four pairs of wings (Koran 35:1).  However, the Hadith tradition includes that "Muhammad had seen Gabriel with six hundred wings." (Bukhari's Hadith 6, 60:380, and see 379.)
Seeing that, according to most Mohammedans, all worship ought to go to Allah and to Him alone, is it logical for Allah to tell the angels and/or jinns to prostrate to Adam?
According to the Koran, besides being messengers, angels' other duties included to tear out the souls of the wicked (79:1), protect humans (82:10) and record their actions (82:11).  The angel Gabriel supposedly dictated the Koran to Muhammed.
BUT, what was Allah's aim in having the angels prostrating to Adam, pray?  Is it right that intelligent beings, whether visible or invisble, should bow down to the first human?  It's all very strange.
Jinns or Djinns, the Koran says, were made from "the fire of a scorching wind" (15:27), but elsewhere from "fire free of smoke" (55:15).  According to a tradition in the Hadith, bones and animal dung are food for jinns (Bukhari's Volume 5, Book 58, Number 200).
Later, man was made from "clay" (6:2; 15:26; 38:71; 55:14), or "water" (25:54), or "a quintessence" (23:12).  These statements seem to be contradictory.
The main point of this note is that it is unlikely that Iblis (or Eblis) was, at the same time, both an angel and a jinn.]]
Koran 18:74:- [[DID MOSES WITNESS BOY-KILLING?]]  So they [[Moses and an Allah-taught mentor]] set out, until when they met a boy, he [[the mentor]] killed him.  [[For the mentor, traditionally named Khidr / Khidhr / Ḵẖiḏẖr, which means "Green," to kill a boy supposedly following the will of Allah, was truly a foul thing, as the Koran's "Moses" is reported to have said, also in 18:74.  Still, this is on all fours with some of the horror stories in the Hebrew Scriptures about Moses' and other leaders' reported dealings with the Egyptians and other peoples.
For a traditional story about killing another boy, according to the text handsome and playing with other boys, read Bukhari's Hadith, 6, 60:250.]]
19:27-34 or 19:28-35:- [[WAS MARY SISTER OF AARON?]]  Then came she with the babe They said, 'O Mary! O sister of Aaron!  And she made a sign to them, pointing towards the babe.  They said, 'How shall we speak with him who is in the cradle, an infant?'  It said, 'Verily, I am the servant of Allah; He hath given me the Book, and He hath made me a prophet; '  <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/019/019-027.htm>. [[Regarding Mary being supposedly the sister of Aaron (who supposedly lived approximately 1500 years earlier, and was the brother of Moses), the confusion could be because of the Arabs' lack of literacy in any language including Arabic until shortly before Mohammed's time, and thus many of the non-Judaist, non-Christian, and non-Sabean dwellers in Arabia might have had little understanding of the huge time-spans of history.  The names Miriam (Moses's sister) and Mary (mother of Jesus) are the same in Arabic (Maryam).
Regarding the baby Jesus supposedly speaking in the cradle, see 5:110's footnote "Cradle talk, bird creation".]]
22:19 (or 22:20):- [[FIRE GARMENTS]]  But as for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them; <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/022/022-019.htm>.  [[But, enthusiastic dupes might not want to wait until the eternal Fire for such punishments to be inflicted, and might organise the attacks on United States soldiers on overseas peace missions a few years ago, the 9/11/2001 attacks on the two New York towers, the Pentagon (and the White House a target?), the London underground rail and the bus, the Madrid bombings, the two Bali bombings, and dozens of others.  There is a rash of suicide and other bombings going on around the Muslim world, killing innocent people, both Muslim and non-Muslim.
The dupes of the extremists might believe that the disbelievers belong to a different Muslim sect ("hypocrites" is one term that could be used to describe them, depending on whether a Muslim was Sunni, Shiite, Hazara, Sufi, Dervish, or any of the other sects); or are People of the Book or people to whom the Scriptures have been given – Jews, Christians, and Sabeans / Sabeites; or are Pagans or idol-worshippers such as Hindus; or unbelievers such as the Buddhists, atheists, and others.  In other words, just about anybody at all is a "lawful" attack target.]]
24:31[[MAKE WOMEN INVISIBLE - VEILS.]]  And speak to the believing women that they throw their veils over their bosoms, [[Regarding veils.  Read also Koran 33:55 and 33:59, and see Hadith tradition, Sahih Bukhari's Volume 6, Book 60, Number 10.  In the University of Southern California internet republishing of an English-language translation of the Hadith tradition Bukhari 8, 74:257 the words, in brackets "(Al-Hijab; a complete body cover excluding the eyes)" seem to be a translator's addition to the old text.  The suppression of women lives on!
Read Koran 33:53 (Prophet's wives behind a screen, supposedly for his last five years) and 33:59 (long outer garment for outdoors), and see Hadith tradition, Sahih Bukhari's Volume 6, Book 60, Number 10.]]
Koran 24:33 (or 24:34):- [[GUILT SHIFTING.]]  You shall not force your slave-girls into prostitution forgiving and merciful to them.  <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/024/024-033.htm>.  [[Guilt-shifting: Notice how the guilt has shifted to the slave-girls, who are the victims of greedy owners and lustful men (presumably), but Allah will forgive the females!  The slave-owner does not get blamed in this aya (verse), nor seem to need forgiveness and mercy.  Is it any wonder that rape victims are still being stoned to death in 2011 and 2012, when such perverted illogical teaching is one of the roots of the culture?
Slavery itself seems quite acceptable in the Koran scripture and the Hadith traditions (just as it is in the Greek Christian scriptures, and the Hebrew-Aramaic scriptures).  But the apologists will be able to quote the start of aya 33, which tells slave-owners to be willing to allow slaves to buy their way out of slavery!
The Saudi Arabian revision of the Yusuf Ali translation struggles in footnotes to overcome the lack of a Koran condemnation of slavery by such words as "obsolete" (footnote 2991), "where slavery was legal" and "absolutely condemned" (fn 2992), and "despicable trade" (fn 2992).  But the footnote writers still think the "poor unfortunate girls" need to "find mercy from Allah." (footnote 2994).  Refer to pages 1014-15.
(This is guilt-shifting at the same level as the European pre-history ancients in Europe, Africa and Asia, and the Amerindians who sacrificed human victims to win favour from the gods, and the Mediaeval and later "reformed" Christians with their heresy hunts and witch trials, often ending in burnings.)  Research the Hadith / Hadeeth traditions, where slaves make regular appearances, starting with <hadith.htm#slaves> and Bukhari's collection, Volume 8, Book 80, Number 741.  Slavery in 2011 is still practised in Saudi Arabia, Sudan, etc., and one slave woman was actually taken as a slave to an embassy in London.]]

33:1:- [[DISOBEY FOREIGN RULERS.]]  O Prophet, fear thou Allah and obey not the unbelievers and the hypocrites;   <www.multimediaquran.com/quran/033/033-001.htm>  [[This verse 33:1, plus 33:48 (or 33:47) and 33:60, give a clear rule to believing Muslims not to obey non-Muslims, plus other Muslims who are thought to be hypocrites (that is, not sincere believers).  Disobeying non-Muslim rulers in a foreign land is not so easy, but it is being done.  Study 33:48 to see Muslims are not to heed the "annoyances" of the non-Muslims and the hypocrite Muslims, and one can see why, for instance, you don't see Births, Deaths, Marriages, etc. personal notices of Muslims in ordinary newspapers.  Then, like the Sudanese who in June-July 2013 in a Perth newspaper said they felt unwanted and not fitting in, one can see that melding outsiders into the Australian community will take more than having multicultural lessons in schools for years and years.
Well, as thousands of "asylum-seekers" are flying and sailing to non-Muslim lands with a fixed resolve not to fit in by obeying non-Muslims, is it possible there is "method in this madness"?  The answer is in the traditions, the Hadiths.
One says "there is no migration, only jihad" (holy war) - Sahih Bukhari's, 5, 59:600.  Read also 4, 53:353 and 6, 60:139, and one can work out why they keep coming, even if the people-smugglers charge extortionate fares.

Daughters inherit half of what sons get, says Koran 4:11.  But Muhammad's daughter Fatima did not get ownership of her father's land from the men who took over after her father's death, according to the Hadith tradition Bukhari's 8, 80:718.  Carefully study "the one in whose hand is the marriage contract" in the Koran 2:237, where the right of an abandoned wife to receive a refund of the bride-gift (mahr) can be lost in either of two ways.  For another example of the Koran scripture teachings regarding family relations, read the curse on Mohammed's own uncle Abu Lahab and aunt at 111:1-5, and the relevant footnotes.  Perhaps the Australian Family Association ought to take note of these matters!]]
65:4:- [[CHILD "MARRIAGE".]]  If you are in doubt concerning those of your wives who have ceased menstruating, know that their waiting period shall be three months.  The same shall apply to those who have not yet menstruated.  <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/065/065-004.htm>.  [[To back what seems in this verse to be allowing marriages of immature girls, called "child marriage", but considered to be a form of "sex abuse" in Western societies in modern times, having sex with a 9-year-old girl, ‘Aisha, is reported, with no negative comment, in the Bukhari Hadith tradition at Bukhari's 5, 58:236.]]
Koran 66:2:- [[TAQIYYA, DECEIT.]]  Allah hath allowed you release from your oaths. <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/066/066-002.htm>.  [[It would seem that the deceit teaching of taqiyya is supported by this Koran scripture, and by tradition in Bukhari's Hadith 7, 67:427
71:26-27 (or 71:27-28):- [[NOAH QUESTION.]]  And Noah said, 'Lord, leave not one single family of Infidels on the Earth <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/071/071-026.htm>.  [[Is there any other document that attributes such an attitude or statement to Noah?  Then ask yourself – doesn't the Koran say that all the wicked people had been drowned in the flood and had gone into the Fire (see āya 71:25)?  So from what Infidel families came the Infidels, either when he spoke, or in the future, to do all the harm he forecast?]]
Koran 74:15 - 74:56:- [[GRAMMAR.]]  74:15 Yet he hopes that I shall give him more.
74:26 I will surely
74:31 We have appointed
74:56 the will of God
[[In verses 74:15 and 74:26, Allah seems to refer to Himself in the first-person singular "I."  In 74:31 Allah supposedly used the "royal plural," the first-person plural, "We," but by the last verse He has changed to the third-person singular, "God."  50:45 has "We" and "My" in the same verse.
"I": This sort of unusual grammar could lead an inquirer to look back over other verses, finding that the first-person singular "I" or "Me" or "My" is allegedly used by Allah for Allah in 8:12, 26:221, 38:71-74, and 60:1 for example.
   "We": However, Allah supposedly adopts the first person plural (the royal plural "We" or "Us" or "Our") in, for example, 2:63, 2:65, 4:74, 5:14, 5:15, 5:45, 5:64, 7:4, 7:166, 17:16, 17:59, 17:60, 27:52, 33:50, 33:60, 57:26, and 59:2.
   "He": Then read some verses (surahs) where Allah is said to be referring to Himself in the third-person singular as Allah (or God), or "He / Him": 2:106, 3:80, 3:157-3:158, 4:15, 4:136, 5:33, 5:51, 5:73, 5:80, 5:89, 7:52, 8:36 - 8:37, 9:28, 9:52, 9:80, 16:101, 22:52, 33:1, 33:26 - 33:27, 33:48, 48:18 - 48:19, 49:15, and 66:2.
In some of the above, readers will see the switch between two or three of the forms, in the same passage.
This pecularity was mentioned in a footnote to a Koran translation, along the lines that Allah "speaks in the first person plural, which often changes to the first person singular or the third person singular in the course of the same sentence." (The Koran with parallel Arabic text, translated with notes by N.J.Dawood, Penguin Books, London, originally 1956, 1998 edition, page ix).  Do you think Dawood is an English name?  Read it as Dawud, then don't let any apologist pretend Dawood doesn't know his Arabic.]]
98:4:- [[SECTS, NO ?]]  Neither were they to whom the Scriptures were given divided into sects, till after this clear evidence had reached them.  [[(The word "this" seems to be an addition.)  Long before Mohammed was born, the peoples of Judah and Israel had divided into sects, including Samaritans (a continuation of the old "Israel", that is, the 10 tribes who resumed independence in the north), Sadducees, Pharisees, Essenes, Karaites, Zealots, etc.  In modern times there are also major and minor sects, and a tiny number of Samaritans (old Israel) continue their tradition, and still have copies of their version of the Hebrew scriptures, which do NOT show Jerusalem as Yehovah's worship centre.
Most modern Judaists follow (at least somewhat) the Babylonian Talmud's teachings, though there is a Jerusalem Talmud as well from ancient times.  In modern times Jews have many different standards of practices, ranging from extremists and tiny sects right through "orthodox" to reformed Judaism, to standard conformists, to very relaxed Jews, and then through to non-practising yet loyal, and on to people who wish they weren't even descended from Judaists.
Regarding Christians, sects existed from early centuries, one Egyptian sect even telling the Nicene Council under Constantine the Great that Mary was part of the Godhead!  The offshoot Sabeans / Sabeites in Mohammed's day were important enough in his eyes to mention them in his recitals more than once, and a small number somehow still exist today in the marshes of the lower Euphrates River, claiming to be successors to converts of St John, a Muslim source reports.
Of course, the whole verse contradicts the other Muslim teaching that people like Abraham and Jesus were following Allah's teaching, which Muslims would say was the same "clear evidence" that Mahomet was then providing.]]
Koran 111:1-5:- [[UNCLE, AUNT, CONDEMNED]]  Let the hands of ABU LAHAB perish, and let himself perish!   <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/111/111-001.htm> [[It was his own flesh and blood, his uncle, who rejected the new faith, and a curse was also put on his aunt.  In the light of this and other Islamic curses (or, dare we say, fatwahs), it seems hypocritical to have at the top of almost all of the Koran's surahs (chapters) "In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful," as some translations word it.  Study this hatred alongside the Koran scripture 64:14 that men's wives and children are an enemy, to beware.  FOOTNOTES TO "THE KORAN KEY" END. ]]

ITALICS and BOLD: Italics in the Koran or Hadith texts are as in reputable translations, but the Bolding has been added.
BRACKETS: If a translation of the Koran has words marked off with square brackets. "[" and "]", this might be retained, or in some cases replaced with curly brackets or braces, "{" and "}".  Wording marked off with square brackets, doubled – "[[" and "]]" – are NOT in the translations of the Koran, Hadith, or other Muslim texts, but were added by the Webmaster.  Round brackets "(" and ")", also called parentheses, if in the text, remain here as published in the text.
In quoted words generally on this website, if there are explanatory square brackets – "[" and "]" – in the real text, on this website they are usually replaced with "braces", also called "curly brackets" – "{" and "}".
ANGLE BRACKETS (so-called), "<" and ">", are generally used herein to show Internet links (URLs) and sometimes e-mail addresses, unless left out to save space.
ISLAMIC KORAN TERMS – Koran, Suras, Ayas :  The word "Koran" means "The Recital" or "The Recitation."  The strict transliteration from the Arabic is Qur’ān (see foreword in Rodwell's, 2001, page ix) or Qur-’ān, sometimes printed as Qur’an, Qur'an, Qur-an, or Quran.  English dictionaries allow the stress in the word "Koran" on either of the two syllables.
What many people call "chapters" are properly named sūrahs / surahs; each has a title in Arabic (but some differ) – not used much in this Website sub-directory – and there are English translated titles (which differ at times).  The numbering of āyas or ayas ("verses") differs between various books.  In this website, variant numbers are usually shown in parentheses, that is, round brackets.
ABROGATIONS, CONTRADICTIONS, REVERSALS Because of the contradictions and reversals, even the Koran text itself says that texts revealed later override texts revealed earlier, and there is a word for that theory – "abrogation."  Discussing the contradictions, and setting up the "abrogation" theory, are discussed in the Koran at: 2:106 (or 2:100) <http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/002/002-106.htm>; 4:82 (or 4:84); and 16:101 (or 16:103).
AND read the CONTRADICTIONS, "None can change His words" at 6:115; and the astonishing aya "Allah abrogates the interjections of Satan." 22:52.
SATANIC VERSES: Yes, there WAS allegedly a Satanic interjection – a section in Surah 53 temporising with the idea of intercession with Allah by three of the Arabian godesses.  The words were supposedly inserted by Satan (the devil), and later "abrogated" by Muhammad, saying the reversal came from Allah.
53:19. Did you see Al-Lat and Al-Ozza,
20. And Manat the third idol besides?
These are the exalted females,
And truly their intercession may be expected.
Muhammad repudiated the (unnumbered) verses in a few days, saying that they were a Satanic suggestion, and he replaced them with the text as it now stands.  (see J. M. Rodwell's translation, 2001, endnote 7 on page 487, relating to Sura 53, ayas 19 and 20.
The idolatry-leaning verses (or ayas) are the original "Satanic verses."  (Those words became part of modern global religious intolerance history when the author Salman Rushdie published a book The Satanic Verses, and some time later he was ordered in a "fatwa" to be murdered, and a £1 million bounty put on his head, by the head Muslim cleric of Iran.  The rest of the Muslim world did NOT issue a "fatwa" ordering the Iranian cleric to cancel his fatwa.)
UNCERTAIN TIME-LINE – Of course, if LATER contradictory teachings "abrogate" (that is, cancel out) earlier ones, it is only human to ask, Which are the earlier and which are the later texts?  The surahs (i.e., chapters) are NOT published in the order of their being recited by Mohammed.  In some translations, under the name of each surah, "Mecca" or "Medina" are given, leading scholars to devise theories of whether Mahomet / Muhammad dictated them during those periods of his life.  Scholars and preachers have theories about when each part of the Koran was written, sometimes different dates being assigned to some verses inside a surah.  No certainty exists.

SCRIPTURE: Hebrew-Aramaic, Greek, Arabic:  In these webpages, the word "scripture" is applied in the following manner.
Hebrew-Aramaic scripture refers to the collection of allegedly heaven-inspired sacred and/or holy scriptural books mainly in Hebrew (with some Aramaic) by the Israelites and Judaic (Jewish) religionists, part of which is called the Torah.  It would be impossible to obey every one of the various contradictory teachings in the Hebrew-Aramaic scriptures.  They are often just referred to as "Hebrew" scriptures.  (In most sects of Judaism, the teachings of the scripture are over-ridden by the Babylonian Talmud, and in some other sects also by the Kabbalah.)
Most Christian Churches call some of these Hebrew-Aramaic scriptures "The Old Testament" of their Bible, though the Roman Catholic sect has added some Greek-language Jewish writings (from the Septuagint) into its Old Testament, and some scholars label these as deuterocanonical.  The Orthodox Churches (like Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, etc.) do not accept most of these books as being "scripture."  Most Reformed Churches reject them all, and call these writings the apocrypha.
Greek scripture usually refers to the collection of allegedly heaven-inspired sacred and/or holy scriptural books in Koine (i.e., non-classical, or common) Greek supposedly written under the inspiration of God, allegedly by associates and/or very early successors to the Apostles and Disciples of Jesus Christ.  Nearly all Christians call this collection "The New Testament" of their Bible.  It is allegedly the Christians' rule of life, read in conjunction with and in some aspects seemingly subservient to the Old Testament, though members and leaders of most sects disobey, evade, or contradict some or many of their various teachings.
Arabic scripture refers to the collection of allegedly heaven-inspired sacred and/or holy scriptural writings in Arabic supposedly on plates (or the "Preserved Slate") with Allah in heaven, allegedly dictated from about 610 of the Common Era (610 A.D.) by the angel Gabriel to a Meccan Arab named Halabid, who later adopted the name Muhammed (Mahomet).  Muslims call this the "Quran," in English traditionally written "Koran."  Muslim sects interpret the Koran in various contradictory ways.
It is most often interpreted by intertwining its teachings with traditions in the Hadeeth (Hadith), plus stories of Muhammed's life in the Sita, rulings of the various schools of legalism of Shariah law, AND fatwahs issued by any of the self-appointed leaders of sections of Islam.
GABRIEL an "angel," or an "archangel"?  In spite of the custom of a major Christian sect, the Roman Catholic, to call Gabriel an "archangel," the word "archangel" occurs only twice in the Greek-language Christian scriptures (McKenzie, J.L., 1968, Roman Catholic, Dictionary of the Bible, Geoffrey Chapman, London, page 52; and Cruden's Concordance, and Strong's Concordance, both by Reformed Christian authors) – Jude verse 9 (about Michael), and in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 about an unnamed spirit who will call out on the Last Day.  But not Gabriel.
Gabriel appears twice in the Hebrew scripture book Daniel, and twice in the Greek scripture book Luke – he is called an "angel" in those books.  (See The New Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, 1966, p. 483, and Cruden's Complete Concordance, 1969, p. 241.)   In an apocryphal (rejected) book called Enoch (supposedly pre-Christian), Gabriel is listed as one of seven archangels (McKenzie, p 291).  The Muslim writings call him an "angel," similar to the accepted Hebrew and Greek scriptures.
GENERAL TEXTUAL EXPLANATIONS:
ELLIPSIS = "" IN QUOTED PASSAGES including citations in many other writings and on this website shows the reader where words have been left out.  If the three full-stops (Ellipsis) are also in single square brackets, like this [], on this website it means a fair number of words have been omitted.  And if the omission is shown like this, [* * *], it means a very long passage has been omitted.  These conventions have been adopted to help people who are trying to search original documents, books, or webpages to check for accuracy, nearby wording, and/or the surrounding details or context.
HOWEVER, in some writings the ellipsis "" is used to show a pause in conversation, or a breaking off of a sentence, or a speaker is interrupted or overridden.  On this Website, if these are detected in quoted material, they are changed to TWO fullstops spaced apart, like this ". ."
ERROR DETECTION: Since December 2006 when the first version of this document was put on the Internet, and parts distributed in other ways, there has not been any report of any error.  (Admitedly, errors were picked up by the Webmaster.)  If any error/s is/are discovered, please urgently help by telling the Webmaster.
HYPHEN " - " IN INTERNET ADDRESSES as showing on screen or on paper:  In some URLs (World Wide Web addresses) on this Website (and on others), an occasional intrusive hyphen ("-") might appear in an Internet Address (URL) on the monitor screen or on paper, but it might only be there to aid the spacing.  If the URL does not work, try omitting the hyphen.  If that does not work, access the webpage and click the link.  Remember, however, that on the Internet in some cases hyphens are used as part of the Internet webpage address.

ASSISTANCE REQUESTED: Regarding the above-quoted "9:30:- And the Jews say: Uzair {Ezra} is the son of Allah; " if any person could inform the Submission Study Unit if this was EVER a belief of Judaists (Jews), or of a sect of Judaists, please e-mail the details and the source of the allegation to S.S.U.  Request made on or before 20 May 2012, but still no response on 29 Jun 2013.  ENDS.

This is the second time that the University of Southern California has changed the Internet links (URLs) to the Koran verses.  The U.S.C. unit is now called the Center for Muslim-Jewish Engagement.  The webpages give three translations for each aya (verse) – Yusuf Ali, Pickthal, and Shakir. - Webmaster 06 Apr 2012.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: The University of Southern California (Center for Muslim-Jewish Engagement), for on-line Koran and Hadith translations, seemingly taken from books.  HOWEVER, the direct clickable links were first of all made more long-winded, then changed again.  The Hadith links became inoperable some time on or before September 19, 2011.  Other sources are also acknowledged on these webpages.

   FURTHER STUDY:
"Jihad: The teaching of Islam from its primary sources – the Quran and Hadith," A study by Rev. Richard P. Bailey. (24 A4 pages, first sighted 05 May 2011).
"Does Islam regard men and women as equal? Is there a mention of the equality of women in the qur'an?" Islam QA - Question and Answer, Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid (5 A4 pages, first sighted 05 May 2011). Quotation:
Other examples include the following, which is not a comprehensive list.
There are other differences between the sexes, including the following:
  • A man can marry four women, but a woman can only have one husband.
  • A man has the right to issue a divorce and it is valid if he does so, but a woman does not have the right to issue a divorce.
  • A man may marry a woman from among the People of the Book (Jews and Christians), but a Muslim woman may not marry anyone but a Muslim.
  • A man may travel without his wife or any of his mahrams, but a woman may not travel unless she is accompanied by a mahram.
  • Prayer in the mosque is obligatory for men, but not for women; a woman’s prayer in her house is more beloved to Allaah.
  • A woman may wear silk and gold, but a man must not wear them.
Everything that we have mentioned is based on the difference between men and women, because the male is not like the female. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
       “And the male is not like the female” {Aal ‘Imraan 3:36}
SUBMISSION.ORG, which was used for variety and the brevity of its Internet Address for a few years, seemed to be dysfunctional on September 8, 2011.  On the browser Internet Explorer there came a message saying that the Submission.org website had changed:
"In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.   Welcome to Submission.org! Oops!  We are very sorry, but the page you have requested doesn't seem to exist, though it might have been here in the past!
Our site has recently gone through some changes, but you may well find what you are looking for via the options in the menu, or just click here to go to the front.
Chances are you got here through searching for one of these common topics:
What is Jihad? / Meaning of Jihad in Islam / Islam and terrorism
Womens' rights in Islam / Are women oppressed in Islam?
Music is not prohibited in Islam / Is music prohibited in Islam?
Dogs are not prohibited in Islam / Are dogs prohibited in Islam?
       God bless, Editors of Submission.org , info@submission.org
Whenever you want to pursue the truth and verify anything you hear about Islam, we urge you to please use the only valid and divine source of Islam, Quran."

       Then that automatically switched to:
"Welcome to Submission.org!  To access our new site properly, you need a modern standards-compliant webbrowser with JavaScript enabled.  Newer browsers are generally safer and faster also, and they are free to download and easy to install, leaving little excuse to use an old one.  But don't feel embarrased - just upgrade your browser and come back. Thank you!
    * Mozilla Firefox (our recommendation!)
    * Google Chrome
    * Opera"

Well, I wonder how the founders of Islam would think that it was part of a pious Islamic website's mission to insist on a more modern internet browser!  And to decline to allow the visitor to access the Koran, which the website had given in its entirety, with its own translation, it seemed.
After a few more clicks, 5:51 was displayed with the following internet address <http://submission.org/d/x/Quran_Inspector_EN_AR.html#5f_51> reading: "O you who believe, do not take certain Jews and Christians as allies; these are allies of one another. Those among you who ally themselves with these belong with them. God does not guide the transgressors."
Where did the word "certain" come from ?  It isn't in the Dawood, Pickthal or Yusuf Ali translations.  Those who understand are invited to check the Arabic in a book, or at http://www.multimediaquran.com/quran/005/005-051.htm
TRANSLATION FIRSTS: 1143 AD, Koran was translated into Latin.  In 1698, allegedly the first accurate translation of the Koran into a European language was publsihed, according to page 59 of David Bryce-Jones' book, The Closed Circle, 1989 and 1991.
LAST MODIFIED: Original document was started on October 7, 2002, Enlarged in Microsoft ® Word © up to when the Koran extracts were copied onto a webpage for which the basic design was hived off with Microsoft ® WordPad © on 14 December 2006; The first Hadith extracts were typed in on 18 Dec 06; Esperanto La Korano added 07 Mar 07; renamed this webpage by adding word "Key" 02 Sep 07; large number of footnotes and cross-references between the Koran and the Hadith composed around 10 to 12 May 2011; Because the University of Southern California searchable and clickable Koran and Hadith websites had seemingly been crippled, I switched all VISIBLE URLs to other clickable websites gradually in September and October 2011, finishing them plus a few non-visible URLs on 01 Nov 2011; this repaired version last modified (now about 29 pages - the Koran Key itself 14 ½ pp, Footnotes / Endnotes 8 pp, Sources 1 page, Explanations 1½ pp, Scripture ½ p, Gabriel ¼ p, General Textual Explanations ½ p, Search List 1¼ p, Further Study 1 page; 08 Jul 2013.) on 03 Sep 2013*
